Matt’s Bocce Game

Okay, okay I know I said I wouldn’t write about bocce again until playoffs BUTTTTTT….on Tuesday’s game we were down a player so I “volunteered” our roommate Matt as a sub and he KICKED ASS. Our team won 12-1 and most of those points were due to Matt sneaking his last throw in and knocking the red balls out of the way.

Alright, that is all. I’m just a proud mama of my “little brother”.

Until our next adventure!

Birthday Bocce

Another post about bocce…but it’s also about my birthday…sorrynotsorry (also totally going to write about playoffs!). Bocce is on Tuesdays unless it gets rained out and it just so happened that my birthday was on Tuesday this year! I was actually nervous that it was going to get rained out so I made back up birthday plans to have dinner with my family at Koo…not gonna lie, I was really hoping to get some sushi. But the storms stayed to the south of us so bocce was on!

James, my parents, Matt, Ashley, and Maranda came to watch my game and eat and hang out. Maranda’s mom joined us later. My team won the game! Birthday luck! (Seriously…I needed it…I’ve dropped down to 4th place!) We watched the other teams’ games and when they were done, we played our own game. James and I were on one team and Matt, Ashley, and Maranda were another team – their team won. Matt was REALLY good – I told him that he needs to change his work schedule next summer so that he can join the league.

Justin and the whole 440 crew always treat me so well for my birthday. One year they brought me a cannoli with a candle in it. This year they brought me a whole plate of fried dough pieces covered in powdered sugar! And then Justin came outside with a plate of shots…of Rumpleminz (a peppermint liquor). I’m not a fan so Maranda had to finish my shot for me.

And that wraps up my birthday celebrations! Overall one of the best birthdays yet…I think I mentioned before that I have horrible luck and have had some pretty crummy birthdays. Lately that hasn’t been an issue so I’m pretty happy.

Until our next adventure!

(The Other) James’ Graduation Party

Completely forgot to post some pictures from Grace’s boyfriend’s graduation party. The party was held at a bocce club in the Hartford area. There was an amazing pizza truck there and of course, bocce, so I was happy!

Bocce

Even though (as of July 1st) I’ve been back in Connecticut for three years, this is the first summer I’ve gotten to participate in 440’s bocce league. My first summer back, I moved here literally in the middle of the summer and the past two summers I would have had to miss too many games with my job. FINALLY now that I work normal hours, I am able to play!

We’re supposed to play each Tuesday but the weather here has been crazy so we’ve had multiple games get postponed and there’s been a few weeks where we’ve played both Tuesday and Thursday just to get all our games in. Bob updates us each week with our playing times, teams, and standings. Everybody signs up as individuals is assigned to a different group each week so people can meet each other (which is great because Matt and Ashley can’t make half the games because of work and James was signed up to play soccer).

For the first game, my team needed a sub and soccer hadn’t started yet so James subbed in and we won! My team also won the second game. For the third game, Carolyn was on my team and she was really good so was surprised when we lost…there was a guy on the other team who was REALLY good (like he hit the yellow ball with almost every throw…he was first in the league last time I saw the standings). There was one week that it rained both Tuesday AND Thursday so that week’s game was pushed to the following week…and I lost. But then I won the 5th game. Bob was on my team and we threw four points on our first turn. Going into the sixth week, Bob texted the league standings out for everybody and I was tied for third (which isn’t saying much so early in the season). My team won the 6th game AND I threw the winning ball!

I can’t wait to play again this week and for the rest of the summer. Am I a bad person to hope it rains on Tuesday when we are on vacation so that I can play on Thursday that week when we’re back?

Until our next adventure!
